I have extensive and diverse experience as a performer-educator in and around the New York City area with professional travels throughout the United States and Europe. My twenty-five year career as a professional guitarist has afforded me opportunities to perform and record with a multitude of diverse and exciting national and international artists in genres such as jazz, rock, funk and world music including Vernon Reid (Living Colour), John Medeski (Medeski, Martin & Wood), Clark Terry, Frank Foster, Wadada Leo Smith, Elliott Sharp, Nicholas Payton, Dr. Cornel West, Marc Cary, Michael Veal’s Aqua Ife, Corey Glover (Living Colour), Burnt Sugar: The Arkestra Chamber, and Brooklyn Raga Massive – to name a few.
I have also maintained a successful private teaching practice in the New York City area for approximately 15 years focusing on guitar studies in particular – involving music theory and improvisation within a wide variety of musical genres. Student ages have ranged from 8-80. Discovering different strategies for teaching and learning through their lessons has been extremely rewarding. Additionally, I have collaboratively facilitated master classes with Greg Tate’s Burnt Sugar Arkestra based on tools of conducted improvisation, as developed by Butch Morris, at Columbia University, Williams College, Brown University, et al.
