My name is Benjamin Roopra. I’ve played piano for half of my life and began playing classically at age 9. As I outgrew my first piano instructor, I began to expand my musical pallet beyond classical piano. Fortunately, the opportunity to attend the New England Conservatory of Music was presented to me. The conservatory taught me the fundamentals of jazz and music theory, so I used this to launch my desire to compose. With the classical, jazz, and self-taught ability to compose, arrange, and produce, I have written three jazz-fusion albums.
As far as experience goes, I was the accompanist for the elementary, middle school and high school choirs at New Hartford Senior High School in NY. I played for the school’s orchestra, band, as well as the jazz band. Outside of school, I have had the opportunity to play as a session musician in studios, tutor college music majors, and have a part-time job playing piano. In the fall, I will be attending Purchase Conservatory of Music for “studio composition”, with my primary instrument being Piano.
I love working with others and sharing my passion for the piano/synthesizer/keyboard. I’m “easy going” and know when and when not to push a music student to reach his or her next step. Hope to work with you soon!
