Kiho Yutaka is a New York based Violinist/Composer originally from Japan. She graduated from Berklee College of Music in with a Bachelor’s Degree in Contemporary Writing and Production. She has a diverse musical background; grew up classically trained competing at solo competitions and joining youth orchestra, moved on to joining jazz band as a bassist/keyboardist and started arranging/composing for jazz groups.
As an instructor, Kiho was hired during her college years to tutor core music courses (traditional&jazz music theory, ear training, conducting) to students who were struggling in that area, since then she has had passion for teaching. She has taught privately for 5+ years and has plenty of experience guiding students through auditions and examinations (NYSSMA, ABRSM, Trinity) as well. She loves to figure out lesson plans for each students uniquely, since she has had students of all levels and ages and they all learn in different ways and speeds.
As a freelance violinist, Kiho’s debut in NY was at the off-Broadway theater, The Gallery Players, in October of 2012, since then, she has experience performing at prestigious venues such as the Radio City Music Hall, PlayStation Theater, John F. Kennedy Center, Lincoln Center, Beacon Theater and many more.
Currently, Kiho is a solo violinist and a crucial member of John The Martyr (10 piece funk pop band), which she has performed at multiple venues and festivals and radio shows at SXSW Conference and Festival 2019, Tipitina’s, Paste Magazine, City Winery and many more. The band and her name was mentioned on Billboard Magazine for their great performance at SXSW.
As a bilingual Japanese professional musician working in the USA, Kiho believes it is also her duty to be the bridge between the countries and facilitate exchange of culture and knowledge.As the current orchestra manager/ international relations at iTSO (iconiQ The Soundtrack Orchestra), she helped to bring Lotus Juice (Japanese rapper, Persona 4, Jojo’s Bizzare Adventure) and Taku Iwasaki (film/anime composer, Jojo, City Hunter, Soul Eater) to NY and host a “SOULJAM” concert on November 18, 2016 at the Littlefield. She was also featured as the solo violinist on one of their program, backed by a 10-piece ensemble.
Kiho’s high level of professionalism was also appreciated at the Fukushima Night in NY, held at One World Observatory on May 30, 2018, where she acted as a contractor/violinist in charge of all music. The Governor of Fukushima Prefecture, to dispel the bad reputation of Fukushima products since the devastation of 2011 Tōhoku Earthquake and Nuclear Power Plant disaster, hosted this event and invited local Fukushima industries to promote their safe and high quality products. This was an emotional night for over 200 attendees, as One World Trade Center symbolizes hope and optimism for the future, which both Americans and Japanese shared on this night.
